Multi RAT Planning

Multi-RAT networks combine several Radio Access Technologies to deliver the service to users (e.g UMTS, LTE, Wi-Fi).

Heterogeneous cellular networks comprise more than one layer of cells of different sizes aimed at dealing with specific targets or constraints such as increasing network capacity, optimising coverage, coping with different propagation conditions in separate frequency bands, etc.

LTE-Advanced provides operators with additional options for designing multi-layer HetNets by adding small cells to boost the radio access network(RAN)  capacity and in some cases fill coverage gaps in the macro cell layer.

Multi-RAT planning is the planning of those multiple layers as a single network, taking into account multi-technology coverage targets, traffic sharing and offloading between layers, as well as installation and implementation constraints (e.g. shared antennas).

Atoll fully supports all aspects of Multi-RAT planning and optimisation including small cell deployment, site selection, automatic configuration, interference coordination, capacity analysis, and backhaul planning.

Atoll enables joint planning and coexistence analyses of all radio access technologies present in a mobile network, e.g., GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA/LTE/LTE-A/Wi-Fi or CDMA 1x/EVDO/LTE/LTE-A/Wi-Fi. Atoll’s multi-RAT network model enables multi-layer HetNet design with multi-technology macro and small cell layers.
